Inspired by Betsy Greer's craftivist movement and by projects, such as The Blood Bag Project and The Uterus Flag Project, I thought it was time that a vegan craftivist project joined the scene.
The goal of the Vegan Craft Project is to re-claim the term "vegan" as it was originally meant to signify - a lifestyle that stands up against the exploitation of nonhuman animals. Veganism is not a diet, nor is it an environmental or health movement - even if it is great for all. It was a term coined by Donald Watson in 1944 as "the doctrine that man should live without exploiting animals."
I hope to collect enough vegan banners to sew together and create a sort of vegan flag or quilt display made up of individually crafted banners. I hope to showcase this craftivist project in vegan establishments and even during demonstrations across the globe.
Craftivism is when craft is used in activism as a means to make individuals think about a concept or to reach out and help individuals in need.
